GRANTS TO L-A

The Cardinal Foundation partners with the Winona Community Foundation to provide grant funding to Lewiston-Altura Public School District students and staff.  Monies distributed are used entirely for projects, programs, and activities that are not otherwise funded by the current school budget.

All grant applications will be reviewed for approval by the Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors and final recommendations will be given to the Winona Community Foundation for fund distribution.

The Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors uses specific criteria for grant approval and funding priorities, however the criteria listed below provides a general basis for appropriate grant requests.

Grant Guidelines

  • Programs and activities that enhance and enrich the educational and extracurricular opportunities for Lewiston-Altura students are the primary focus of the foundation funding.

  • Other funding resources should be reviewed and considered before submitting funding requisitions.  Foundation funding is not intended to replace usual and customary public funding.

  • There are no dollar restrictions as to the amount of a request.

  • The number of participants served and the cost per participant will be important factors when determining the value and merit of a request.

  • After receiving approval from the superintendent, students, staff, teachers, and administrators may submit a grant request (found on the grants page of the Cardinal Foundation Website) for the board to review at the following board meeting.

  • The requestor may be asked to join the CF Board as they review the request at the monthly meeting to answer any questions the Board may have.

  • CF greatly appreciates any follow up pictures, videos, or written summaries after approved grants are implemented.  With your permission we will use this information to promote CF on social media.

  • Grants should be submitted 6 weeks in advance to ensure funds are received in time.  CF cannot guarantee the timing of funds, but will make all reasonable efforts to have funds distributed in a timely manner.

  • Program support should not be presumed from year to year.  Programs will need to reapply for funds each year if additional funding is requested.
